What do you get a girl for valentines day when she thinks its overly commercialised and rubbish?
Heres the thing, I’ve been with my girlfriend for a year and three months, she’s 16, a bit alternative, but not a hardcore goth, emo or punk and she thinks that Valentines day is a huge commercial excuse to squeeze money out of stupid lovestruck people. I am a stupid lovestruck person and I want to get her something. What do I do?
Oh, and she hates pink, hardcore girliness and ANYTHING remotely teddy bear-like.
Help!

Well, it’s true it’s commercialized. But for her, you could get her one single rose that’s crimson red, or dipped black.

So get her something that is not “commercial” – something you can’t buy at a store. Write her a song, story, or poem – something sincere or personal. Or take her somewhere she enjoys – a concert, a hike, etc.

Something that relates personally to you two. Or maybe write her a letter.

Make something. This way, you’re not buying anything and you still get to show her how you feel.

buy her a black rose

make her a home made card…………..doesn’t matter how “hardcore” she may think she is. She will melt.

Take her out to lunch. I must say, I’m tired of the whole commercialization of every possible way to get money out of people too. Birthdays, anniversaries, valentines, Christmas…and so on. It’s like Hallmark is inventing reasons that you have to buy a card and a gift.
Anyway…take her out for a nice lunch/dinner and tell her how much you genuinely care for her.

get her nothing and then find what her true feelings are on the subject. (caution- I would have a small gift hidden so if she blows a fuse you can quickly calm her down. get her a cd)

Give her something that SHE likes. If she totally loves wildflowers, pick her some. If she loves rocks or driftwood, find a really cool looking rock or piece of wood. The point is to get her something you know she is in to. Pay attention to the sort of thing she collects and get her something to go with that collection. Using your imagination, and paying attention to what she likes, will impress her.

Give her a cake that you made yourself.
It should be easy enough to find out about her taste, and everybody with a recipe book (or the internet), access to an oven, kitchen scales, and a baking tin can manage that.
Or give her something else that you made for her, even if it’s only a card. There is no need to spend oodles of money. A lot of women actually value the effort involved more than the monetary value of a present.

Well, if she thinks Valentines Day is a commercial excuse to get money (which, in a way it is), then don’t buy her anything. Instead, spend the day with her, take her some where she enjoys, or do something she enjoys. That way, you both have a great day with each other.

Draw your own Valentine card (that’s cheap enough),
and tell her how much she means to you every day, not
just on Valentines Day.
You started awfully young (her only 15 a year ago), so
she maybe hasn’t lived out her teen years yet and you
will have to be patient and let her catch up. Maybe love
came into her life too soon to appreciate the usual stuff
of sending “sweet nothings” that lead up to marriage.

valentine’s day was not supposed to be the way it is now. before it was about writing love notes. now its about candy and Hannah Montana valentines. just write her a note.

Does she like Candy maybe thats a good thing to get and maybe a teddy bear for her.

well if she doesn’t want a gift then take her out on a date. have dinner or go see a movie or both if you can afford it. do something unexpected. if you really want to get her something, I suggest a locket or a pendant. they’re small and easy to hide so you can present it to her however you like. (presentation is important with any gift to a girlfriend) maybe give it to her at the end of the night. have her close her eyes and act like you’re going to kiss her then put it around her neck.
hope this helps

Make her a mixtape or mix CD. If she likes music, a mix CD is perfect. You made it yourself, so there isn’t any commercialism involved, it’s a somewhat alternative-type gift, and you can feel free to use it to express your being “lovestruck.”
Mix CDs can also be very thoughtful, which is always a plus.
