Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

OK, he’s only 19 months old but he completely trashed 2 dining chairs by overturning a pot of violet-colored easter egg paint onto the cream-colored chairs. The chairs are upholstered without a cover and now have large splatter stains across the seating surfaces. Can anyone recommend any method or product with which to clean them?

How to Make Your Own Printable Invitations for Any Occasion

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Even with modern technology like email and cell phones, printed invitations have remained the most common way to let people know about your upcoming party and will continue to remain popular due to the timeless rules of party etiquette. Invitations can be a major cost, especially for large parties, like weddings and some baby showers. However, with a little creativity and time, you can make your own printable invitations, even if you have no artistic skills.

1. The first step is designing your card. You can use a simple word processor like Microsoft Word and if you want, you can go to the Adobe’s website at http://createpdf.adobe.com to convert your file into a pdf file. Select the proper dimensions and print out a sample on some plain white paper just to make sure it is the right size.

2. Next, you will want to find the proper card stock to print out your invitations on. Your local office supply store will have these and you can purchase them inexpensively there.

3. Use the word processor to insert text boxes with the words you want on your invitation. Play around with the fonts and text color.

4. There are many sites that offer free clip art and pictures that you can use for your invitations. Just do a search for “free clip art” on the search engines and you will find many sites that provide these services for free. Browse through and download the pictures you want and then insert them into your card at the desired location.

5. If you use a background image, make sure it does not obscure the text on the card. Ideally, background images should be watermarked. Most word processors will allow you to select background images and make them watermarks. Another alternative is to click on all the text boxes and give them solid colored backgrounds.

6. Need a catchy poem or verse? Once again, you can search the internet for related verses. For example, if I am making baby shower invitations, then I can search for “baby shower poem” or “baby verse” and any other related phrases.

7. Save the master copy of the finished card and print out a sample copy on plain paper to see what it will look like. If it looks good, then you can start personalizing each card and printing it out on card stock.

8. If you do not have a color printer, then create a personalized copy for each guest and save it as a separate file on a disk. Take the disk to your local print shop and have them print out a invitation for each guest. Some print shops may even print out the invitations for you if you give them the guest list and template. A print shop will cost more than printing them out yourself, but probably less than buying invitations from somewhere else. Plus the product should look very professional and they may even have the right card stock available. Additionally, print shops can do engraved invitations as well, which are good for upscale occasions like weddings.

Some other guidelines include try to stick to a central theme, don’t try to use too many pictures and colors, and compare your card to others at card stores to get a feel for what a good invitation should look like. Remember that most invitations are simple and have just a few graphics and maybe one verse. As you can see, there are infinite possibilities when creating your own party invitations and not only is it a fun project, but will also save you money.

The History of the Easter Lily

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Easter is associated with memories of parades, family gatherings, church services, chocolate bunnies, gift baskets, egg decorating, and the famous Easter Lily. They are very popular for Easter gifts, and their unique trumpet shaped blossoms symbolize life, purity, hope, and the spiritual meaning of Easter along with the promise of Spring.

The Easter Lily was originally bought into the United States by a World War I soldier Louis Houghton. What was previously known as the Bermuda lily was first brought to the southern coast of Oregon in 1919. Houghton distributed an entire suitcase of the hybrid lily bulbs to various friends and family.

This lily proved to really thrive in the climate there. It was similar to the flower’s native Ryukyu Islands of Japan. By the year 1945, there were over a thousand growers on the west coast harvesting these bulbs to sell. There are only about two full weeks during the year when these flowers are commercially available. Easter lilies are estimated to be the fourth largest potted plant crop in the United States, following the poinsettia, mum, and azalea.

History, mythology, and art are filled with stories and images that speak of the beauty and majesty of the elegant white flowers. One of the most famous Biblical references is in the Sermon on the Mount, when Christ said, “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin and yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”

Lilies are often called the “White-Robed Apostles of Hope”. Lilies were discovered in the Garden of Gethsemane after Christ died on the cross. During the Easter season, churches line their altars and envelop their crosses with a multitude of Easter Lilies, to signify the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the hope of eternal life.

Another concept associated with the pure white lily is that of womanhood. In some early paintings, the Angel Gabriel offers pure white lilies to the Virgin Mary, and this symbolizes that she will be the mother of Jesus. Other paintings show saints bringing vases of white lilies to Mary and the divine child. According to the legend, the flowers were formed when Eve cried repentant tears upon leaving Eden, and the tears became lilies. The point of this legend is that true repentance leads to beauty.

Established through the centuries as a symbol of purity, grace, and the regal lifestyle, the white lily is a suitable reminder of the greater meaning of Easter. These flowers grace millions of homes and churches every year, embodying joy, hope, and life; whether given as a gift or displayed proudly in one’s home, the Easter lily remains a beauteous reminder of how Easter is a time for celebration and rejoicing. So when you purchase Easter baskets for your loved ones, don’t hold back with decorated eggs and chocolates, but be certain to include a few Easter lilies as well!

How do I transfer recorded prank soundboard calls from my cell phone to my computer?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

I have a Nextel i560 cell phone. The prank call is quite possibly the best ever. Definitely my best work. This drunk lady in Montana thought I was her son calling her to mess with her. I used Pee Wee Herman’s soundboard, as well as Napoleon Dynamite and even Jack Nicholson. I had her going for almost 30 minutes!! All of my friends and I laughed so hard we had tears in our eyes listening to the playback on speakerphone. It is a masterpiece. I plan on forwarding it to the ebaumsworld.com to put on their website. But I want to preserve it on my computer and would love to burn it to cd. How can I do this? Will the Motorola USB Charging Data Cable work, or do I need something else? I will personally forward a burned CD-R copy to the first person who correctly answers the right way to go about this. I’m telling you guys, you will laugh so hard your stomach will hurt. This is legendary stuff!! Thanks.

Easter Gifts to Bring Smiles to Little Boys and Girls

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Which are the best Easter gifts to bring smiles to little boys and girls? Well, hang onto your hat, because that is what we are about to find out.

First though, try to think of your earliest memories of Easter morning at home. What did you like the best?

Was it coloring eggs? Perhaps, it was the trip in the car to have lunch and dinner at a family member’s home. Or, it might have been Easter afternoon, when you got to play with friends in the back yard.

Today, children enjoy doing those very same things you did back then. Of course, many children know the true meaning of Easter and how Christ came back to earth. And, they associate the beautiful Easter eggs with Christ.

And now – on to the gifts!

Easter Basket Surprises – Give each child his or her own Easter basket filled with little surprise gifts. There may be a coloring book and crayons, a ring that lights up, a toy telephone, and a set of ABCs in foam rubber that stick on wet surfaces. Also, a set of stickers with cartoon characters, a kaleidoscope, and a bubble blowing kit are sure winners.

Easter Rabbit Costume – It is fun getting dressed up and what better costume than the Easter rabbit – unless it is dressing up as an Easter egg. There are also Superman costumes and Cinderella costumes.

Magical Name Scroll – Your child’s name is a precious sight. Why not have a beautiful scroll made of his or her first name against the background of a painting or majestic crest. Included in handsome printing is the name and its meaning, its history, facts about the name, and famous people who bear the name. A golden crown, seals, and colorful borders complete the scroll. It is ready for framing and comes with a free gift you will also treasure.

Teddy Bear – This teddy bear is ready to do anything his owner wants to do. He talks, plays, and even falls asleep. When it is cold, he has a sweater, a cap, and a scarf to wear. He loves to watch with wide-open eyes as his owner runs, and jumps, and collapses in laughter.

Ice Cream Maker – Children consider ice cream their favorite food and they particularly like to make it themselves. And, it is easy in this maker. The ice cream maker is a ball that opens. Place the ingredients inside, close it tightly, and shake it. Pass the ball from person to person with everyone giving it a vigorous shake. After a few minutes, open the ball and scoop out the ice cream.

Well, that is about it. I hope these Easter gifts to bring smiles to little boys and girls gave you some good ideas.

Oh – as for that nagging question children always ask: “Where does the Easter rabbit get the eggs?” – I’m afraid you are on your own. Every time I try to explain where the rabbit gets those eggs, children around me giggle themselves silly.

Kids Crafts – Making a Wooden Easter Bunny

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Rabbits are cute. Bunnies are cuter. Easter bunnies, they are the cutest. This is why so many people like to make Easter bunnies for their home and yard. The handmade, wooden Easter bunnies are often times considered the top of the line Easter bunnies and with a little instruction, even the most novice of wood crafters can create beautiful bunnies.

There are two main traditions of Easter bunny figures in the wooden world. The first of these traditional poses is the sitting bunny. This bunny is a bunny that has all four legs on the ground. In this pose, the legs are all close to the bunny’s body and the ears are often back, over the body. This is also one of the easiest Easter bunnies to make. The second tradition is a little more difficult to make, but equally as popular. This is the standing Easter Bunny.

To make the first style of the Easter Bunny, you need to simply draw, cut, and paint one body and four legs. If you do not feel that you have the artistic ability to draw the rabbit parts, several templates can be found on the internet. Simply prick these templates, place the template over the piece of thick wood that you plan on cutting the rabbit from, and trace the designs with a pen or other solid item to leave a mark in the wood. Then cut the wood according to the templates. The legs can then be glued to the body to provide for a very solid base. Sanding the wood and painting it in bright and pastel colors help to make it from a normal bunny to a festive Easter Bunny.

The second style of Easter bunny is a little more complicated. Because the rabbit will be standing, a wider base needs to be used and a heavier wood should be used to provide stability. The easiest method of design is the slot method. In this method the body is cut at a profile view. This means that it is as though you are looking at the side of the rabbit, rather than the front of the rabbit. This body does not include arms or legs at this point. To add stability, make sure the tail is set so that it will touch the ground. There should also be deep groves in the wood so that you can attach arms and legs to the rabbit. The arms and legs will be cut together, meaning both arms will be on a single piece of wood and both legs will be on a single piece of wood. The arms and legs will then fit into the groves that you had cut into the wood. Be sure that the feet are flush with the tail. This will help to set a very stable tripod base for the bunny. Angling them forward will help to increase the stability as well.

No matter what style of bunny you decide to make, it is sure to be a treasure that you will want to display all year.

How can you get prank calls that are restricted?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

I have been getting prank calls on my boyfriend’s cellphone. And I think it is this crazy love-obsessed butch girl who wants me and I’m in a straight relationship how can I prove it’s her calling me? I have diabetes and I have been stressed and not feeling good I want her to leave me alone.

There Are Fools And There Are Fools And We Can Choose Which Type Of Fool We Wish To Be

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Would you ever be so foolish as to step out of a boat and attempt to walk on water? Peter did, at the invitation of Jesus, and no problem arose until he looked at his circumstances and took his eyes off Jesus Christ.

Focussing on your circumstances can cause you to sink. When considering leaders and leadership such matters are so vital and crucial. If leaders sink what will happen to those who are following? That applies to various areas of life!

This was the gist of the column which appeared in the “Nairnshire Telegraph” on Tuesday 1 April this year.

A farmer, who thought he was doing quite well, decided to build bigger barns so that he could bathe in his material prosperity for years to come.

Almighty God called him a fool. When God refers to anyone as a fool, He means a fool morally and never mentally. It has more to do with wisdom, or the lack of it, than cleverness.

This farmer was unaware that he did not have more than 24 hours to live!

Some unwise young farmer might have regarded that sad man as a role model worth following.

Be careful whom you follow.

Paul was prepared to be classed among those who were fools for Christ.

When a Roman General defeated an enemy he, with his army, would march through Rome, and crowds would shout and cheer. At the end of the procession there would be a miserable bunch of poor prisoners in chains who were going to be thrown to the beasts. They would be mocked and ridiculed.

Paul taught that apostles are treated by the world like those at the end of the procession. We bring up the rear as fools for Christ.

Be slow to boast about those whom the world derides.

If ever pride creeps in, the Scripture has a way of pricking and puncturing our balloon.

There are fools and there are fools. You can choose what type of fool you want to be.

Whose fool are you?

Sandy Shaw
